With over five million children in the United States currently being prescribed medication to handle their ADD or ADHD disroders, one might think the medical community has over prescribed medication. Interestingly however, teachers are the first ones who sound the alarm there may be a problem with a child. In fact, most parents hear from their child’s teacher there may be an ADD problem.
Teachers have quite a bit of hands-on experience with children, and almost all of them would say a five year old that cannot sit still, does not ring bells for alarm. A five year old that sits perfectly still on the other hand may be out of the norm.
When a professional, like a teacher advises a child is suffering from ADD or ADHD, they are effectively condemning the child to a life of medications throughout their most important, developmental years.
In addition to the massive amount of children who are prescribed Adderall, Ritalin, or Vyvance (all medications taken to handle ADD and ADHD), there are many others who abuse these drugs as a way to get high.
Prescription drug abuse does not just stop at OxyContin and Vicodin. More and more drug rehab facilities are seeing an increase in the abuse of ADD and ADHD medication. If you or anyone you know is suffering from a prescription drug abuse problem please contact help immediately.
