Prescription drug abuse is widely believed to be a pre-curser to heroin addiction. Most people start off with this type of drug because it is more accessible, “safer”, and provides a euphoric high once taken.
Generally, people start off with prescription drugs like Vicodin, Oxycontin, Lortab or Percocet. What occurs is that once a person is addicted to these drugs they move on to heroin because it is cheaper and provides the same kind of high.
Someone who has an addiction to prescription drugs needs to enroll in a drug rehab facility immediately. This will prevent an addict from resorting to heroin abuse and ultimately becoming addicted to another, harder drug.
