With over five million children in the United States currently being prescribed medication to handle their ADD or ADHD disroders, one might think the medical community has over prescribed medication. Interestingly however, teachers are the first ones who sound the alarm there may be a problem with a child. In fact, most parents hear from their child’s teacher there may be an ADD problem.

Teachers have quite a bit of hands-on experience with children, and almost all of them would say a five year old that cannot sit still, does not ring bells for alarm. A five year old that sits perfectly still on the other hand may be out of the norm.

When a professional, like a teacher advises a child is suffering from ADD or ADHD, they are effectively condemning the child to a life of medications throughout their most important, developmental years.

In addition to the massive amount of children who are prescribed Adderall, Ritalin, or Vyvance (all medications taken to handle ADD and ADHD), there are many others who abuse these drugs as a way to get high.

Prescription drug abuse does not just stop at OxyContin and Vicodin. More and more drug rehab facilities are seeing an increase in the abuse of ADD and ADHD medication. If you or anyone you know is suffering from a prescription drug abuse problem please contact help immediately.

Countless news reports, drug awareness campaigns, and media campaigns scream of the dangers of prescription drug abuse. However, that seems to have little or no effect on the 6 million Americans who reported prescription drug abuse in 2008. In fact, during the last ten years, there was a 400% increase in the amount of people seeking help for a prescription drug abuse problem.

Why such a massive increase? Primarily due to most people considering prescription drugs are much safer than street drugs. Additionally, prescription drugs are readily available with over 50% of those surveyed saying they received prescription pills from family members or close friends. Another 9% said they received the pills from someone they knew.

These tens of thousands of people in the United States are still struggling with prescription drug abuse. The only real way to handle this devastating problem is to enroll in an effective drug rehab.

Thursday was not a good day for Dr. Sandeep Kapoor. The doctor, who became infamous after the death of his famous patient, Anna Nicole Smith, is on trial for conspiring to provide Smith with excessive drugs, prescribing to an addict, and prescribing to Smith under fraudulent names. Although he has plead not guilty, there is some pretty damning evidence against him.

Investigators pointed to a journal entry by Kapoor stating that he was addicted to Ambien (a powerful sleep medication) and that he thought that Smith was possibly addicted to benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonipin). Additionaly, Kapoor writes about an incident where he went out the club with Anna Nicole and consumed large amounts of liquor and participated in an orgy with her, he writes, “Can she ruin me?”.

This is not the first time the public has witnessed a doctor over prescribing to the point of death for a celebrity. Michael Jackson’s doctor is experiencing the same career ending fall out.

Prescription drug abuse is running rampant throughout the country, and for the first time, the world is beginning to see who the real drug pushers are. Doctors and pharmaceutical companies are making billions off of our addictions and is vital that we do somethng to stop this.

A recent report from the Army General indicates that there is an increased amount of soldiers on prescription medication and this may be fueling the growing rate of suicides in the military. Currently, 14% of the military is being prescribed prescription pain medication. Additionally, between 3 and 6% of al deployed military are on at least one antidepressant, and some soldiers are on multiple psychiatric medications. These statistics are fuel for many different heated arguments regarding the military and the way, however for a great number of the soldiers put on prescriptions, many of them return home addicted.

Often times, and especially in the military, prescription drug abuse starts with an injury. The medication is prescribed to allow the person to continue on with their life, without being sidelined with pain. However, what tends to happen is that the person becomes addicted to the medication and cannot refrain from using it. Even after the pain is gone, people still seek out the drug.

Regardless of how a person starts abusing prescription medication, it is vital that they enlist the help of an effective drug rehab to learn how to live life. More and more people are realizing that prescription drug abuse is a nation-wide epidemic, because of this, there is an increased focus on effective drug rehabs. The key to determing whether or not a rehab is effective or not is to look at their approach to addiction.

Our soldiers, our loved ones, and friends do not have to live life addicted to prescriptions. Prescription drug abuse does not have to go unhandled.

OxyContin, Vicodin, Xanax and Perocet – these are all popular prescription drugs that are abused on a daily basis by thousands of Americans. We know about this. It is in the papers, on the internet and all over the news. But if we are all aware of this epidemic why is it so hard to get anything effective done to stop it?

Sure there are prescription monitoring programs that more and more states are implementing, however what does that do to the people who are already addicted to prescription drugs? It does nothing. In fact, when the pills dry up addicts usually turn to heroin, which provides the same effect as OxyContin.

Narconon Louisiana is a long-term, inpatient drug and alcohol rehab that focuses on handling prescription drug addictions as well as heroin addiction.

It is nothing new to report that the quest for illegal drugs and the high they provide is still alive and well, however, what is new are the lengths people are stooping to in order to get high. Digital drug videos are all over the internet, these videos are intended to produce the same euphoric feeling that drugs provide, and despite mixed reviews, the idea that a child could be sitting in their living room right now listening to a mixture of sounds in order to attain a high similar to cocaine, Oxycontin, or Xanax, is devestating.

Instead of being thankful that they are only doing this via the computer, and do not actually have the real thing, parents need to realize that sooner or later, the real drugs will come calling. The only real way to handle a prescription drug addiction is to enroll in an effective drug rehab immediately.

While it is deplorable that companies like YouTube would allow such videos to be published, it is more alarming that there is an audience for this type of thing. Increased exposure to drugs, the allure of taking drugs, and peer pressure are all factors that are contributing to the vast amount of people suffering from addiction. Instaed of worrying about where a child is going to go to college, or if they will clean their room or not, parents are now faced with the nightmare of the potential to abuse drugs and alcohol.

Narconon Louisiana is a drug and alcohol rehab that is on the forefront of handling addiction permanently. Their 76% success rate for permanent recovery illustrates their stellar production and dedication to ridding the planet of addiction. One of the few effective facilities for out-patient minor care, this rehab has proven that addiction does not have to be the norm, and it does not have to set the tone for a child’s life.

Narconon Louisiana has been so successful in the rehabilitation of children because of their approach to drug use. Instead of attempting to force a child into meetings and labeling them with an addiction, Narconon Louisiana shows that they can change their behavior. Narconon Louisiana does not subscribe to the idea that addiction is a disease. Instead, clients work one on one with a counselor to figure out what problems drugs and alcohol were a solution for in the first place. Once that problem is isolated and handled, clients no longer have to ro turn to drugs as a method of getting through life.

Parents all over the country have to contend with the rest of the world pushing drugs on their children, including YouTube. So, regardless if your child is experimenting with virtual drugs or real drugs, the time to act is now. Call Narconon Louisiana immediately at 866-422-4650 if you or someone you know is in need of help for a drug or alcohol addiction. Help is available.
